About ActionReach

A Zambian faith-based, not-for-profit specialist in last-mile child-rights delivery.

Who we are

A specialist in the last mile between a child’s need and the support that should address it

ActionReach Zambia is a faith-based, not-for-profit, specialist last-mile child rights delivery organisation working in Lusaka Province, with Lusaka District as its first focus. It was founded during the COVID-19 response in 2020 to reach children the emergency left most at risk, including children with disabilities who were isolated at home.

Between 2020 and 2025, ActionReach developed a disciplined model of child identification, case management and verified outcomes, reaching 21,144 children across health and nutrition, education, and child protection. The organisation works through first-level hospitals, schools, churches and community structures, alongside four line ministries. ActionReach serves every child on the basis of need alone, regardless of the family’s faith. It does not replace the public services children are entitled to; it helps children access those services and follows through to confirm that support has made a real difference.

Measurement note: the 21,144 total is the sum of the three programme-area counts. It represents children reached by area of support and should not be described as a deduplicated count of unique children unless individual records confirm that children have been counted only once.

Vision and mission

Our vision

A Zambia where every child is recognised, protected, included, and able to reach their full potential.

Our mission

To help vulnerable children gain legal identity, reach learning and healthy development, and achieve lasting progress through community-based, accountable action.

Our aspiration

For every girl and boy we serve

  • Recognisedwith a registered birth and legal identity
  • Protectedsafe from violence, abuse, neglect, and exploitation
  • Healthywell-nourished and cared for at the right time
  • Learningin school, attending, and progressing
  • Lovedfull of dignity, belonging, and hope
Our purpose

Why we exist

We exist because children’s rights can remain out of reach even when services, policies and community goodwill are present. A family may need help navigating a process, coordinating different providers, resolving practical barriers or ensuring that a referral is completed. ActionReach helps connect those pieces so that children are not left to navigate complex systems alone.

Our approach

Our approach combines the reach and trust of community relationships with a disciplined, child-centred process. We aim to make systems easier for families to navigate while strengthening accountability for the actions agreed around each child. Explore COUNT–GROW–THRIVE.

Our strategic direction and theory of change

ActionReach’s strategic direction is to contribute to a Zambia where every vulnerable child in Lusaka Province is recognised by the State through birth registration, protected, healthy and well-nourished, learning, and able to retain the progress made. Our role is to close the gap between a child’s need and the systems intended to respond.

Our theory of change is straightforward: when children and families face barriers to rights and essential services, and when no one follows the case through, children can remain excluded even when services exist. If ActionReach works with families, trusted community networks and responsible public or specialist providers to identify children, understand barriers, coordinate practical action and verify results, more children can access appropriate services and make progress. If the response is locally owned, evidence-led and sustained through partnerships, the benefits can last and the learning can help systems improve.

This is a contribution model, not a claim that ActionReach alone delivers every service or causes every outcome. Health professionals provide clinical care; schools and education authorities are responsible for education services; authorised Government offices determine registration; and statutory or specialist actors lead protection responses. ActionReach helps connect the child to these systems, supports follow-through and checks what happened.

Our values

Four values that guide everything we do

These values guide how ActionReach identifies children, works with families, manages information, selects partners, uses resources and reports results. They are reflected in the COUNT–GROW–THRIVE model and in our responsibility to act with care, humility and evidence.

  1. 01

    Dignity and inclusion

Every child has inherent worth. No child is excluded because of disability, poverty, circumstance, or belief.

  2. 02

    Faith in action

Our Christian faith shapes our compassion, integrity, and service. It is offered freely, and never as a condition of help.

  3. 03

    Accountability and stewardship

We show what changed for children, with evidence, and use every resource transparently and well.

  4. 04

    Partnership

Families, Government, schools, health facilities, and churches each have a role. We work through them, not around them.

We pay particular attention to children who are more likely to be overlooked, including children with disabilities, children facing poverty or exclusion, girls and children in underserved communities.

Who we serve

Who we serve and how we define our role

ActionReach focuses on vulnerable children and young people aged 0–18 who are missed by or face barriers to essential services, with particular attention to unregistered children, children who are out of care or have missed care, children with disabilities, girls and children experiencing exclusion in underserved communities. Prioritisation is guided by assessed need, safeguarding, programme eligibility and the capacity to respond responsibly.

Our distinctive contribution is not to replace clinics, schools, registration authorities or statutory protection systems. It is to close the loop between the individual child and the system: identify the need, agree the action, support navigation, follow through and confirm the result.

We aim to make the child’s experience more coherent while helping partners see where processes are working and where families continue to encounter barriers. Learning shared with partners is anonymised and used responsibly.
